Specie

After millions of years of evolution, the nature that surrounds us holds the best designs. We try to copy them with the technology at hand, but in the process a certain aspect of intricacy and uniqueness is lost. To bridge the gap, Mathias Malm created an algorithm that can create shapes and forms in a random, natural manner. ‘Specie’ is one of its offspring. This organic-looking chair has its own digital genome, derived from a bleached coral. As the source of inspiration is threatened with extinction, the computer-generated design becomes a one-of-a-kind remnant of what once was.
